What are you actually metered on with Submagic?

Two things at once, and the second catches people out. As listed on submagic.co/pricing on 22 August 2026, the Starter tier allows 15 videos a month with a maximum length of 2 minutes each; Pro allows 40 videos at up to 5 minutes; Business allows 100 videos at up to 30 minutes. The free plan allows 3 videos a month at up to 1 minute 30 seconds with a watermark.

For a talking-head creator this matters more than the video count. A three-minute piece to camera is an ordinary length, and it does not fit inside the Starter tier’s 2-minute cap at all — the limit forces a tier upgrade for reasons unrelated to how much you post.

VibeRoll has neither limit. It is a local renderer: length and count are bounded by your disk and your patience.

Where is Submagic the better tool?

On caption craft and speed of iteration. Submagic’s caption styles are strong, it is quick to try variants, and it runs in a browser so there is nothing to install and nothing to keep updated.

It is also the better answer if you want to test the idea for free. Its free plan is limited but real; VibeRoll gives you a 7-day trial and then asks for $29.

And on collaboration — a hosted tool with an account is simply easier to hand to a freelancer or a teammate than a licence key on one machine.

How do the yearly costs compare for a solo creator?

Take the common case: one creator, a few three-minute talking-head reels a week, wanting captions and some visual variety.

On Submagic that does not fit Starter, because of the 2-minute cap — so the realistic tier is Pro at $39/month, or $23/month if you commit annually, which is $276 for the year at the annual rate. Adding Magic Clips for automatic clipping was listed at a further $19/month monthly, or $12/month annually.

On VibeRoll the same workload is $29, once, and b-roll placement is not an add-on. That is the entire pitch, and it holds specifically for this shape of use — a solo creator, moderate volume, no team, no need for cloud storage or scheduling.

Do both handle vertical 9:16 output?

Yes — both are built for vertical short-form and output the 9:16 frame that TikTok, Reels and Shorts expect. Neither makes you fight the aspect ratio.

The difference is what fills the frame. Submagic centres on the caption layer over your footage. VibeRoll plans the whole frame: where captions sit, when b-roll cuts in over your voice, and how all of it is styled by the theme you pick, applied consistently across every reel you make so your posts look like a set rather than a sequence of one-offs.

Does your footage stay private with either tool?

Submagic is a hosted service, so your video is uploaded and processed on their infrastructure and retained according to your plan. For most creator content that is unremarkable — it is the same trade every cloud editor asks for.

VibeRoll never uploads the footage. Speech recognition runs on-device through sherpa-onnx Parakeet, the render runs through your own machine, and activation is an offline licence-key check against a public key, so there is no account and no server that has to know you exist.

That distinction stops being academic the moment the footage is not yours to upload — client work under an NDA, an unreleased product on screen, anything filmed inside a workplace with a data-residency policy. In those cases a local tool is not a preference, it is the only one that passes review.
